Toyota Ups its 2012 Sales Goals Due to Prius Demands

Toyota is the world's largest seller of gasoline-electric autos, and this year, it's upped its sales goals even higher than usual due to high demand for its hybrid vehicles, including the new Prius c and the other members of the Toyota Prius family, as well as other Toyota-produced electric vehicles in Europe and Japan.

Some of the automaker's increased vigor stems from Japanese government incentives, which are designed to balance out a very strong current yen value. Most of these incentives involve waiving taxes and offering rebates for low-emission vehicles. Japan expects to raise auto sales by as many as 900,000 units due to these new incentives. The Toyota Prius hatchback, for example, retails from 2.17 million yen and is eligible for 135 thousand yen tax break and a 100 thousand yen rebate. U.S. customers also receive discounts on low-emission vehicle-but only to all-electric vehicles, not hybrid-electric vehicles like the standard Prius.Toyota now predicts it will sell 8.58 million vehicles this year, which represents a 21 percent increase from previous annual forecasts.

In short, Toyota has plans to keep its top spot as the world's largest automaker, and an overwhelming demand for Prius vehicles assures us that the brand is likely to meet its goal.
